It is the name given to ‘Space’ (with a capital S) by philosophers and astronomers of the ancient times.

It is perceived as a “subtle fluid” which permeates the ‘Universe’ in an ‘eternal’ manner; that is, it has no beginning, middle or end;

Due to disastrous or misinterpreted experiments, ether was since disregarded.

However, it has made its return as ‘curve Space-time’ with the advent of the ‘Relativity Theory’.
